“Dunstan are very proud to support Organisations which promote the continuing careers of retired race horses around New Zealand! These organisations include Beyond the Barriers, the Dunstan Ex- Factor Competition and Event Stars.”
Beyond the Barriers NZ is a non-profit organisation whose purpose is to promote the versatility and suitability of retired racehorses as pleasure and Sporthorses within New Zealand in a way which is beneficial for both the Thoroughbred and Sporthorse Industries. Beyond the Barriers NZ is supported by a family of generous sponsors including Dunstan.
These sponsorships ensure that Riders can compete in the Dunstan Ex- Factor with their re-trained and re-schooled racehorses for a significant prize pool, with over $15,000 in prizes up for grabs over the three days of competition.
Dunstan Ex-Factor is a competition that showcases Thoroughbreds which have had less than 12 months sporthorse schooling since retiring from their intended career on the racetrack.
Selected Thoroughbreds compete in three of the six available classes and points accumulated across these classes determine the overall winner of Dunstan Ex-Factor. The classes provide Riders with an opportunity to show a range of skills including jumping, dressage, off-road and freestyle which makes for great viewing for spectators.
Each Thoroughbred competing is profiled in a dedicated programme which provides information about their breeding and race history. A wide range of Thoroughbreds is represented in the competition with previous competitors including mares and geldings, unraced horses through to steeplechasers, Group 1 winners and even horses who are still racing, 4-year-olds through to 12- year-olds and horses that have been produced by Professional Riders through to teenagers with their first off-the-track Thoroughbred.
