Dunstan Weanling

Dunstan Weanling has been formulated to provide the exacting nutrient requirements of the young growing horse in a palatable complete feed.

The advantage of a complete feed program being one of providing a balanced diet every day in a convenient and economic form. Many of the ingredients required to ensure growth rate and sound bone development are added to the daily diet in small quantities, necessitating accurate weighing of often expensive ingredients.

A feed that provides all macro and micro ingredients in a palatable complete mix to supplement pasture, eliminates the risk of under or over feeding, at a critical stage in the foal's development.

The diet is of high nutrient specification, using Dunstan's extrusion technology where cereals and soya beans are cooked to enhance digestion. Ingredients are selected for their digestibility and nutrient availability to ensure steady growth rate and sound bone and joint development.

Feeding Recommendations

As Dunstan Weanling Mix is a complete feed formulated to balance pasture for protein, energy, minerals and vitamins, it should not be mixed with other feeds or supplements. Good quality pasture and hay should be fed in conjunction with Weanling Mix to provide adequate roughage intake. Regular exercise is an important management aspect in ensuring sound bone and joint development.

FEEDING GUIDE:

October Born Foals - Expected mature body weight: 500 kg

Age/Months Month Average Body Weight Kgs Weanling Feed Kgs/Day
5 March 190 2.50
6 April 215 3.00
7 May 240 3.25
8 June 265 3.25
9 July 290 3.50
10 August 315 4.00
11 September 340 4.25

These figures assume an average growth rate of 0.75 kg per day. Should pasture growth be of exceptional quality due to enhanced seasonal conditions, or an animal be growing at a greater than average rate due to the natural variation in metabolic efficiency between individuals, then feeding rates may need to be adjusted to avoid excessive growth rates. Consult with the Dunstan Nutrition Advisory Service.

Offer the daily feed allocation in as many feeds as possible, but certainly no less than two feeds per day.
