Dunstan Fibre Plus Pellets are a specialist complete feed formulation for young growing horses, weanlings and yearlings.
Dunstan Fibre Plus provides the same exacting nutrient standards as Dunstans Weanling and Yearling mixes but with added fibre, and in a pelleted form.
Some breeders prefer to offer greater quantities of fibre to their young horses in an attempt to minimise any effect from feeding high levels of carbohydrate which may compromise the natural intestinal flora of the horses digestive system. This may possibly lead to general digestive disorder, vices and perhaps colic. Additional fibre will also provide extra warmth during the winter months as a result of fibre digestion and its associated heat increment.
The higher fibre content of Fibre Plus may aid in slowing down the consumption of starchy cereals and provide for a more controlled release of blood glucose and insulin. This effect may have a positive influence over bone formation and freedom from joint abnormalities.
To many stud breeders a high fibre intake is synonymous of a natural digestive process and an option of feeding additional fibre in pellet form is an alternative to the more conventional cereal mixes.
Dunstan Fibre Plus contains both quality meadow hay and lucerne to complement each other as fibre providers.
Dunstan Fibre Plus Pellets offer the combination of proven nutrient values to provide for good growth rates and sound bone and joint development, with the added benefit of quality meadow hay and lucerne for a natural digestive process.

Dunstan Fibre Plus is a complete feed formulated to balance pasture for protein, energy, minerals and vitamins and should not be mixed with other feeds or supplements. Good quality pasture and hay should be fed in conjunction with Fibre Plus to provide adequate roughage intake. Regular exercise is an important management aspect in ensuring good bone and joint development.
|Weanling||April - October||3-4 Kg / day|
|Yearling||November - February||4-6 Kg / day|
Offer the daily feed allowance in as many feeds as possible but certainly no less than two feeds per day.
Should pasture growth be of exceptional quality due to enhanced seasonal conditions, or an animal be growing at a greater than average rate due to natural variation in metabolic efficiency between individuals, then feeding rates may need to be adjusted to avoid excessive growth rate which may negatively influence joint soundness.
Consult with the Dunstan Nutrition Advisory Service. Dunstan Fibre Balancer may be an appropriate product to feed under such circumstances.
